JooyeonKoh – Miss Read

JooyeonKoh

Seoul-based artist and zine maker Jooyeon Koh has been dedicated to "The Charade Show" since 2021. This project captures everyday landscapes through mass media influences, constructed by layering small scenes. The aim is to illustrate how minor tremors can lead to significant changes over time. Employing a unique technique, she blends delicate machine embroidery threads with digital pixels or fine pencil strokes, resulting in artwork distinguished by its charm and originality.

The message of the Charade Show is that just as a small cat can have unexpectedly great power, so too can we.

Machine embroidery is also a process of accumulating small threads one by one to create a large shape. I believe the change that small forces quietly gathered together could be connected to the message. Machine embroidery is undervalued in comparison to hand embroidery, as it is perceived as an industrial tool. My objective is to elevate the value of this tool by utilizing it creatively and transforming it into a work of art. I would like to focus on the little things.
