Published online since 1999, the Berliner Gazette (BG) has become an experimental platform in dialog with offline formats (workshops, exhibitions, festivals), thriving on exchange with grassroots movements and research initiatives. Investigating translocal issues and focusing on annual themes, we explore the possibilities of cultural change through commoning – a set of practices that combine cooperation, mutuality, and solidarity to prefigure a better world beyond the limits of a profit-driven society. Our projects are dedicated to comprehensive cultural and political education and are realized in cooperation with partners such as schools, cultural institutions or informal networks. Our recent projects include the festival “Kin City” (2024), the exhibition “Silent Works” (2020), and various books including Kin City (2024), Invisible Hand(s) (2020), Undeclared Movements (2020), Fugitive Belonging (2018), A Field Guide to the Snowden Files (2017).

Kin City: Urban Ecologies, Infrastructures of Life, and Internationalist Struggles

Our planet of cities is trapped in an economic-ecological vicious circle. To break out, we must expand critical reappraisals of the histories and continuities of colonial-capitalist urbanization and connect urban and environmental struggles across borders. This 100-page publication includes artwork by the Colnate Group and is available as an open access book in English, German, and Bosnian-Serbo-Croatian.
