Forest Research Platform – Miss Read

Forest Research Platform

Forest Research Platform is a multi-year research initiative by Christl Mudrak located in the Krämerwald near Grünefeld in Havelland. Interactive processes involving collaborators, participants, as well as animals and plants, serve in this newly founded research project to reveal authorship as a connecting and communicative element.

In a forest shaped and managed by human hands, the methods and principles of nonviolence towards all forms of life will be explored and reflected upon through artistic means. Imagine, for a moment, that all beings and substances in this place were regarded as equal from a human perspective – what implications might this have for our actions and ways of coexisting?

Throughout the multi-year project, international artists will be invited to create permanent works based on the premise of coexistence in nonviolence. In parallel, regular guided tours, workshops for students and enthusiasts, as well as performances, interventions, and lectures will offer both the public and the artists diverse insights into the exhibition's theme.

On the topics of sustainability, the environment, climate issues, living in nature and working in collaboration, the publications of the contributing artists to this platform will be on display: Kirsten Pfalz (artist book series on environmental pollution and sustainability), Klara Hobza's "On slaughter", Christl Mudrak "Eros" (initial for this forest project), Andreas Sell "Alliances of People" (on collective work), Ella Ziegler "Holy Shit" (on the more ecological handling of our excrement) and others.

Christl Mudrak. Eros
Ed. Sven Christian Schuch & Christl Mudrak, Christl Mudrak. Eros, Hatje Cantz Verlag, 2025 © Ed. Sven Christian Schuch & Christl Mudrak

Christl Mudrak's first monographic publication is dedicated to her artistic, painterly work of the last two decades. The book is both a search for traces and impetus for an artistic practices that contradicts the simplifying patterns of art historiography and makes institutional appropriation more difficult. In addition to the creation for experiential spaces and participatory-performative painting, Mudrak's art focuses on exploring the potential of collaborative work, based on a deep understanding of the equality of humans, animals, and nature.
Through this monograph, Mudrak's often ephemeral art is not only made visible, but can be experienced anew.
