Taking Tony Cokes’ immersive video installation “SM BNGRZ 1 + 2” as a starting point, “SM BNGRZ [New Order Edit]” is an attempt of translating Cokes’ media practice into the format of a book while maintaining the viewer’s experience of watching the video.
For the publication, the 45 minute two channel video installation was divided in its single film slides. Randomly programmed excerpts of about 10 consecutive minutes respectively 100 slides were taken and each printed into one single book. Each edition of the 400 copies therefore contains different slides, a different part of the video installation, and a different color combination.
“SM BNGRZ [New Order Edit]” is an artist’s book in an edition of 400 unique copies, translating single viewer‘s experience into the medium of a publication.
