Cigale
Cigale is an artist-run, independent publishing platform founded in 2018 in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal, Canada), unceded lands of the Kanien'kehá:ka Nation, and in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Through its various initiatives, Cigale is dedicated to transmediality and translation between art and literature.
Anchored at the intersection of Montreal’s French and English-speaking artistic communities, translation is at the core of our mission. Our multilingual publishing structure aims to open up channels for dialogue between anglophone, francophone, and other linguistic communities.
Our core project, Cigale journal, features original artworks, texts, and translations assembled in thematic dossiers fostering experimental, documentary and critical writing. In parallel, our Methods booklets focus on writing as a method, and ponder over the text and what it performs, through the articulation of its form and effects. We are committed to supporting those who are fighting towards the dismantling of oppressive systems of power through artistic and activist work.
