Barriosinzapatos – Miss Read

Barriosinzapatos

I am Sebastián Barrios, a Chilean artist and editor behind the graphic and editorial project Barriosinzapatos. My work explores drawing through line, repetition, and material and formal austerity, developing serial processes based on simple self-imposed rules. Barriosinzapatos brings together the educational and the everyday from a personal and experimental perspective. I am interested in publication as a space to host and preserve serial work—as a form of record, archive, or manual—where visual systems can unfold across pages and formats. Working across drawing, printmaking, and digital reproduction, the project results in artist books, zines, and printed matter, as well as related objects. Through this practice, I approach publishing as both a method of production and a way of organizing and sharing visual knowledge.
Artrópodos

Fanzine composed of a collection of 15 arthropods, constructed through the relationship between the area of the circle and its perimeter, using a limited red and blue color palette. Within the series, a figure appears that does not belong to the group of arthropods, visually marked by the inversion of colors. The fanzine explores repetition, construction, and anomaly through a minimal geometric logic. Extended format as an A3 poster and closed format A5.

Noe is a fanzine that reimagines the ark as an editorial and visual space. Each animal appears twice: once as a drawing and once as a word, both constructed from the same formal rule—using the edge of an everyday object as a module. By repeating this perimeter, textures emerge that evoke skin, feathers, or scales. When unfolded, the animal appears on the right page, while its name is placed on the left in a typeface built from the same module, organized differently. The project creates a dialogue between image and text, typography and drawing, exploring how a simple rule can generate recognizable forms and articulate perception, geometry, and representation.

Fruits

FRUITS is a fanzine that gathers different fruits and explores how we perceive them through their physical form. Constructed through the repetition of glued circles, the images refer to the grape as a matrix form—clusters that can be read as grapes, but also as other possible fruits. A play between perception, repetition, and formal ambiguity.
