Blood Becomes Water

We're Blood Becomes Water, a Bulgarian art trio, based in Sofia and Brussels, united by friendship and a shared passion for subcultural art and music. The collective's work spans emerging contemporary art, illustration, graphic design, and limited-edition publishing.

What began as a casual experiment in 2010 with "The Bulgarian Issue" has evolved into a significant contribution to the Bulgarian art scene. BBW's creative initiatives have paved the way for other zine-related and DIY projects in the country.

We're known for the bold and playful graphic vocabulary, fearlessly experimenting with various techniques, including print, mural paint, and textile. Our work often features deformed characters, subcultural references, and surreal creatures, combined with handmade typography.

JAVEL, a book showcasing photos and textile artworks by Rosie Eisor, created during her residency at AIR Sandnes in Norway.

The book reveals a visual collection from Sandnes and Stavanger, highlighting Rosie’s experimental use of an inkless toy camera. By juxtaposing color prints on glossy paper with a lo-fi black-and-white aesthetic, she creates a strong contrast that invites viewers to feel the spirit of Norway.

Each book is hand-sewn by the artist, making this limited edition of only 50 copies truly special.

The “Mimesis” presents a collage of selected self-portraits by Jacopo Benassi in a multi-layered textile patchwork made by Blood Becomes Water. The image of the artwork was used to create an A2 folded poster publication, containing information about the project and the artist. It was printed on Armen Paper® – a stone paper which is infinitely recyclable and naturally resistant to water or grease. Furthermore, its softness and flexibility reminds of fabric, which relates on conceptual level to the project.
