Bücherbogen am Savignyplatz – Miss Read

Bücherbogen am Savignyplatz

More than fourty years ago, Bücherbogen am Savignyplatz GmbH was established in a former car repair shop, located in the massive brick viaduct underneath the tracks of the Berlin S-Bahn. The store, set up by Ruthild Spangenberg and now managed by her and her daughter Wanda Spangenberg became the nucleus of the still ongoing rise of the Savignyplatz district, from rundown to premium.
Bücherbogen gained its unique reputation – recently, the only Berlin store among the most beautiful European bookstores, represented in the illustrated book „Die schönsten europäischen Buchhandlungen“ - not only because of its outstanding location. The store is especially famous for its broad and excellent in depth selection of books on the arts, on architecture, on fashion and on film. Easy to get lost between more than 25000 titles on the shelves. Don’t worry: the knowledgeable and frienly staff is happy to guide customers through the jungle.
The inspiring athmosphere attracts artists as well as booklovers from all over the world. So many memories, so many stories are present under the S-Bahn tracks for people open to discover them. For example American photographer Annie Leibovitz loves to reminisce here, because Bücherbogen was the favourite Berlin-spot of her late spouse, the unforgotten Susan Sontag.
