Cai.Jian.Cong – Miss Read

Cai.Jian.Cong

I am Cai Jian Cong, an illustrator whose practice centers on birds as symbolic protagonists. My work uses avian imagery as a metaphorical language to explore personal reflection, social observation, and subtle commentary on contemporary life. Rather than depicting birds in a purely naturalistic way, I reinterpret them as carriers of emotion, tension, and narrative suggestion.

Through simplified forms, graphic structures, and recurring symbols, I construct visual metaphors that invite layered readings. Each illustration functions as a coded statement—sometimes poetic, sometimes critical—where meaning is embedded in posture, space, and compositional rhythm. I am interested in how symbolic imagery can communicate complex ideas without explicit explanation.

My practice moves between intuition and conceptual framing, using birds as a flexible visual system to question identity, vulnerability, migration, and freedom. Participating in Miss Read 2026 would allow me to expand this symbolic dialogue within a publishing and print-focused context.
