Dicey Studios – Miss Read

Dicey Studios

Dicey Studios is a Berlin-based graphic design studio, working with artists, publishers and non-profits. In self-published, self-initiated projects Dicey Studios use graphic design and typography as starting points and tools to remix and appropriate (found) source materials like text fragments or visual signifiers. These publications feature typographic snapshots, two-word short stories, illustrations, paintings, etc. They take the shape of zines, textile objects, posters, or of books (occasionally as performance and installation objects).

Book cover

"Retail Brutalism Still Lifes" gathers meticulously painted depictions of obscure consumer products, as found in strikingly minimalist online ads. Staged at the center of attention, these bare, scaleless signifiers appear as unknown monuments to the commodity as its own ideology – concealing every trace of the commodity's fundamental nature: the relation between people.

Two spreads from the zine (top), scarf an cover of the zine (bottom).

„NOW!” is the textile counterpart to the booklet “Do not give me a moment!”, a split-publication with artist/writer Fette Sans. “NOW!” condenses the booklet, which features Fette Sans’ essay based on Dicey Studios’ typographical snapshots, into a wearable demand and exclamation in form of a scarf.
