Edit
Edit is a literary magazine based in Leipzig, Germany. Since its founding in 1993 Edit managed to intertwine local newcomer voices with established national and international writers, focusing on poetry, experimental prose and the literary essay. So for example Sibylle Berg and Clemens Meyer had their first publications near first German translations of Chris Kraus, Claudia Rankine and many more. Most recently Edit published translations of Chen Chen, hn. lyonga, Nhã Thuyên and extracts from the literary estate of Marianne Fritz and Joanna Russ. Also poetry and theater by Sarah Claire Wray, Muri Darida and Elza Javakhishvili found recently their place in the Edit legacy.
The literary pieces are accompanied with a selection of art contributions that a curator selects for each issue, the last issue was curated by Sonja-Maria Borstner. Since many years the book design is made by Studio Pandan, who always translates the essence of literature and art into the most beautiful covers and designs.
Edit works also outside the paper margins of the magazine : every two years it organizes the renown prize for literary essay. Edit also organizes readings and events in the Leipzig area collaborating with international institutions such as the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, the literarischer Herbst, but it also very interested in Leipzig spaces such as the bookstore ROTORBOOKS, the gallery slugg, the skater hall and socio-cultural center Heizhaus.
