EDITION SCHWIMMER

Edition Schwimmer has published 81 photo booklets since 2011 in 2 series:
1. TheSchwimmer, open format: temporary news rooms, first-hand-photography, free content – usually edited by Sibylle Hofter
2. Monthlies, photography by S. Hofter
(both A5, 12-40 p.)
plus a few early books in the 2000s.
Freedom of the small format. The edition and the agency project under the virtual roof of Büro Schwimmer focus on documentary photography and participatory photo-curatorial work on emancipatory concerns and the aesthetic power of the image in equal measure, although the realities of life in the operating systems (journalism, art scene, pol. activism) suggest that either content or form be at the service of the other.
The path between the chairs is stony.

Printing costs are refinanced by a small but stable number of subscribers. The circles of distribution and communication are usually connected to art, photo or civil society/empowerment projects. As a visitor I found Miss Read attracting a wide range of open minded passionate publishers and all kinds of ‚project makers‘ around independent publishing – beyond competiveness. Happy if I could join in.
