HARDWORKING GOODLOOKING (HWGL) is a publishing and graphic design hauz co-founded by Clara Balaguer and Kristian Henson in 2013, which expanded to include long-time collaborators Czar Kristoff and Dante Carlos in 2018. HWGL is interested in the material vernacular, cottage industry, grey literature, and the value of the error. Primarily, they publish (tropical and diasporic) cultural research, mostly printed in very, very small streetside presses in the Philippines. HWGL began as a seedling of the social practice platform, ✞ The OCD (2010—2018), initially circulating content generated through The OCD’s research and programming. Later, HWGL branched out to include personal projects, other friends, contingent practices. HWGL works out of Muntinlupa and Rotterdam and San Pedro and Portland.
