Julia Bohle – Miss Read

Julia Bohle

I am a visual artist and practice-led researcher originally from Germany, currently based in Sydney where I am undertaking my PhD. I live and work between Germany and Australia, moving across both contexts as part of my artistic and research practice.

Throughout my practice, which began in communication design and photography, I have developed a strong focus on the artist book and photobook form. This is also central to my current project, where I research the aura of the artist book through site-specific practice.

My work explores inner and external landscapes through photography, artist books, and experimental publishing. Walking plays a central role in my process, often developed through site-responsive fieldwork in arid and desert environments, where I engage with atmosphere, memory, and the subtle traces left by time.

I work across analogue and digital processes, combining photography with experimental techniques such as cameraless exposures, re-scanned prints, and material interventions.
