K. Verlag – Miss Read

K. Verlag

K. Verlag is a Berlin-based publishing atelier advancing new forms of the book-as-exhibition. Over the past fifteen years, we have built a distinct program engaging complex planetary and sociopolitical questions through artistic practice, storytelling, and theory, with a sustained commitment to intersectional and socioecological perspectives and to underrepresented voices.

Our intercalations series, produced in dialogue with Das Anthropozän Projekt at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, explored multispecies entanglements, colonial natures, and speculative cartographies, while our current Processing Process series foregrounds the politics of artistic method. In 2024, we launched Pensées soignées, a series dedicated to translating non-Anglophone intellectuals reflecting on care as an epistemic force.

Recipient of the Deutscher Verlagspreis (2025, 2023, 2020) and several book awards, including the J.B. Jackson Book Prize in Landscape Studies (2024), K. Verlag remains committed to publishing as a transformative practice—building dedication to collaboration, solidarity, material responsibility, and radical imagination through the printed page and beyond.

672 pages of killer content: "intercalations 5 – Decapitated Economies," the print edition of the fifth (and somehow still also the last) volume of the six-part series "intercalations: paginated exhibition" series (2015–25) has arrived at the studio. Together, the whole series amounts to 1,922 pages—gathering and presenting unique pieces, which not only intercalate and resonate in exciting ways within the various publications, but also—especially—across all of the volumes.

I AM STILL ALIVE: DISPATCHES FROM GAZA
Mahmoud Al Shaer, I AM STILL ALIVE: DISPATCHES FROM GAZA, K. Verlag, 2025, © Mahmoud Al Shaer

A searing testimony from within a life under manifold oppression.

In I Am Still Alive: Dispatches from Gaza, Palestinian poet and cultural worker Mahmoud M Al-Shaer documents life during the ongoing war in Gaza with breathtaking clarity and devastating intimacy. Composed as a series of dispatches written since January 11, 2024, the author uses his voice to record his struggle to hold onto words in resistance to erasure and whilst bearing witness to unbearable violence. These texts offer not just a relentless chronicle of destruction, but a vital affirmation of presence, relation, and survival amidst the unspeakable catastrophes unfolding in Gaza.

From the wreckage of homes and futures, Al-Shaer builds language as shelter—raw, lyrical, defiant. His writing refuses the daily cruelty imposed by war and human rights violations, and demands the world pay attention. Each page pulses with an utterance that insists: I am still alive.

Mahmoud M Al-Shaer has dedicated this book to his three-year-old twins—Nai and Majd—now separated by nearly 1,000 kilometers and exposed to different traumas. All proceeds from the sale of I Am Still Alive (available in print and eBook formats) will go to the author to support his family and other Palestinians.
