SEARCH Vol. 1: Independence an independent graphic magazine that seeks to uncover and investigate the designs, subcultures, and changemakers that are reshaping the creative landscape of Southeast Asia. Every issue takes a single theme and explores it from a design point of view, with a focus on local and regional perspectives. It aims to offer alternate perspectives and narratives about design across Southeast Asia.

The second issue of SEARCH delves into the meaning of 'Kitsch' in Southeast Asia, exploring its origins, its role in collective histories, and whether irony or genuine appreciation are key. It explores the aesthetic that thrives on mockery and critical contempt.

Originally published in December 2019, the inaugural issue of Process looks to explore how constraints are used as an advantage in the creative process. We speak to Fikri Fadzil, Mahen Bala, June Low, Engku Iman and Ng Seksan to understand how this ethos has influenced their respective projects for the better. ⁣⁣

Five-foot ways, or 'kaki-lima,' are a prominent feature of historical urban centers in tropical Southeast Asian cities. In the hot and humid urban center, these colonnades along the rows of commercial shophouses provide comfortable pedestrian walkways. It is frequently considered not only as a pathway but also as a space for transit activities in Malaysian urban settings. The book delves into the richness, diversity, and beauty of life along Kuala Lumpur's five-footway.The book begins with Kaki Lima stories from Southeast Asia, particularly from the countries bordering the Malacca Strait. It further investigates the five-footway as the generator of the public realm by illustrating how the physical attributes of the 31 Kaki Lima activities contribute to the livability of downtown Kuala Lumpur. These activities may slow down traffic, but it is precisely this that draws pedestrians' attention to shop displays and makes public space so appealing.

Sustainability is a loaded term, heavy with numerous responsibilities and challenges behind it. Many will feel overwhelmed, especially with the influence of news media and social platforms. But it doesn’t have to be all that complicated. The more we look, the more ways we can find to be sustainable.
