Maycec

Maycec is a visual and sound artist based in Paris, founder of les éditions musicographiques and co-founder of A la maison printing with Sergej Vutuc.

Her experimental vision manifests itself in the exploration of the image through compositional work that plays with various printing techniques. Her work also develops with the interpretation of sound in space, questioning the appropriation of sound layers through the image, created particularly with the editorial performance project “musicographisme,” the series of editions “interférence” and the installation “tension of humming,” in relation to the collaborative work “25:00.” This research is newly accentuated by a work of electroacoustic music composition contributing to the reflection on the relationship between visual and sound materiality.

Since 2012, Maycec's work has been shown in several institutions and galleries in Europe and Morocco.

"interférence" is a series of editions reflecting on visual disturbance. The first three issues reveal minimal geometric patterns merged with different printing techniques. As a logical continuation of the reflection initiated by the last two editions, “interférence 6” composes with analog photographs of minimalist landscapes, mixing iteration and accumulation of these images. This new proposition supports the notion of variation and disruption, with subtle color gradations and raster difference, disordering their initial representation.
Characteristic of these editions, the cutting, this time circular, disorganize this raster to confront these pictures with another reality.

A singular family album, during a summer time.

Through images captured with a portable scanner, this visual and tactile ensemble fluctuates with the elements of a daily life disrupted by an off-camera reality. Through this distortion of bodies and objects, this edition projects a family vision that is both complicit and complex, with a variation of paper textures that provoke a sensory relationship with the material. These photographs are also accompanied by sounds recorded during various explorations, engaging a reading towards other sensations.

Musicographisme_3 — volte
Graphic score in a series of 10 experimentations,
created and composed by Maycec + the sound piece “volte” ( 19’51”) recorded on purple cassette.

For this 3rd proposal, “volte” is an invitation to rotation where the printing machine imposes its sound singularity resulting in the feeling of moving from one passage to another. The machinelike and circular movement of the spirit duplicator brings a narrative dimension, combining various textures to create its own sound substance. In relation with the editorial performance project “musicographisme” addressing the relation between music and graphic design—structurally and conceptually, directly and indirectly. A correspondence between materials.
