Meantime is an independent magazine about the history of Singapore told through personal stories. The theme for the fifth issue is Breakup Stories, revisiting history through moments of separation, heartbreak and fractured relationships. The narratives move between micro and macro-histories, from personal breakups to Singapore’s split from Malaysia. Inspired by kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with gold, the metaphor of making the broken beautiful runs throughout the issue, starting from the cover to the inside stories, demonstrating that our pasts, even the broken ones, stay with us.

With a slice taken off the bottom, the publication appears to be sinking when turned upright. The word 'sin' takes on multiple meanings. More than just about misbehaviours, it is also a reference to the country code. Storytelling and design come together as an invitation to explore what it means to be 'bad'.
