Nasr City Ludic Press – متحف ألعاب النصر

Nasr City Ludic Press is a publishing practice based in Nasr City (Cairo). We had our first appearance at Cairo Art Book Fair 4th Edition last December. We produce Zines, booklets, sculpture-like objects, and games as well.

We try to explore topics of local lived-experiences through explorations into language, memory, and play. We try to take the locality of Nasr City - which is a neighborhood in the east of Cairo - as an empowering element more than a limiting one. Depending much on utilizing local digital solutions in production, along with intense design and illustration qualities.

Playing Cards

The court card illustrations (Kings, Queens, and Jacks) are sourced from the English pattern deck provided by Dmitry Fomin via Wiki Commons. These works are used under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication for open commercial use. However, the Ace card, card back design, and courts’ symbols are original works developed by Nasr City Ludic Press, as well as the Joker illustration was also conceptualized and designed exclusively by Nasr City Ludic Press and using AI assistance, which constantly glitched the illustration idea when prompted to base it on the symbolic figure of Nasreddin Hodja (Goha) riding his donkey backwards... This project showed us how much fun to work on designing a cards deck, and teaching us much about cards history and symbolism.

((( FUN FACT )))
King of clubs is actually Alexander the Great.
