Oaza Books

OAZA BOOKS is an independent publisher on art, artistic research, design, poetry and illustration. Books are designed, edited and published by Art and Design Collective Oaza from Zagreb.

So far we have established several editions. oBOOK / Editions in the field of art, design and research are edited and curated by members of the OAZA Collective. The edition arose from the need to articulate critical views derived from the self-initiated works of OAZA members. aBOOK / Artists’ Books Edition focuses on collaboration with exciting artists from around the globe delivering artists’ books that fuse contemporary art practice, graphic design and publishing. Oaza&Sons / Illustrated Edition brings out a series of intelligent and inspiring illustrated books for children and adults. The series emerged from the belief in transformative power of children’s literature — in its simultaneous act as art, as pedagogy, as ethics and as a political practice. Oaza&Friends / Co-production and co-publishing projects in which members of the OAZA Collective participate in different roles.

Stitch the Ruin
Željka Blakšić, Stitch the Ruin, Oaza Books, 2026, © Željka Blakšić

The publication expands Stitch the Ruin, a 16mm film and research project examining textile production in the former Yugoslavia, focusing on labor histories, gendered economies, antifascist movements, and the collapse of post-socialist industry. It brings together research, experimental images, film stills, and archival fragments that treat clothing as an archive of memory, loss, and transformation.

The publication translates camera-based processes—photograms, hand-processing, and painting—into printed form, extending a practice that moves between film, photography, and material-based image-making.

It includes texts and conversations with curator Ana Janevski (MoMA, Department of Media and Performance Art) and writer Petra Belc (art critic and researcher), situating the work within histories of labor, feminism, and contemporary conditions shaped by global supply chains, deregulated production, and ongoing authoritarian political logics.

A Guide Through Sadness
Espi Tomičić, Sretan Bor, A Guide Through Sadness, Oaza Books, 2025, © Espi Tomičić, Sretan Bor

A collection of poetry for children and adults, "A Guide Through Sadness" raises awareness about grief as a normal part of life, through a unique visual language and by depicting 13 different situations. The illustrations, including their color palette and approach, aim to challenge the conventional image of grief by presenting mourning as s process of transformation. It is important to (learn to) talk about grief, and this book serves as a kind of statement to that belief. "A Guide Through Sadness" is the first children's book by Espi Tomičić, featuring illustrations by the artist Sretni Bor.
