oi publishing

oi publishing is a publishing initiative by the de_colonialanguage collective (Berlin). We have been publishing books since 2022. This self-publishing endeavor is inspired by Lumbung Press and other self-publishing projects, where the editor’s role is functional and organizational rather than hierarchical. We are interested in publishing OtherArchives, in forms of knowledge production and distribution that are alternative to academic ones. We practice a critical institutional approach, while also creating alternative forms of institutionality. Our focus is on decolonial solidarity, on investigations of hidden forms of colonialism and façade “humanistic” projects and power relations within it. Geographically, our focus is on the regions of Central and North Asia, the Caucasus, and Eastern Europe.

Witness testimonies and comments by participants and guests of imaginary institution on the first anniversary of the Open Air Museum of Decoloniality at Alexanderplatz (2023-24).
This book was created as a collection of visitor testimonials. We invited visitors to the Open Air Museum of Decoloniality to tell us in any form about their visit, to share their memories with us. And already during this work of collecting the witnesses, the process of reflection revealed that we ourselves have been witnesses all this year. We have been witnessing what Alexanderplatz are - a public space (or marketplace?), a Soviet square in contemporary Germany in the middle of migrants flows and the social processes that are taking place. And many of these processes are not nice. The book consists of witnesses and commentaries and is itself a witness to social changes.

the current state of Indigenous peoples in russia and their struggle against Russian colonialism and war
Indigenous decolonial activists, the current state of Indigenous peoples in russia and their struggle against Russian colonialism and war, oi publishing, 2025, © Indigenous decolonial activists

Summary report, written by Independent Indigenous and Decolonial activists, researchers and members of anti-war initiatives as part of a roundtable discussion at the German Foreign Ministry in 2024.

This book is the result of collective volunteer work of Indigenous and decolonial activists, researchers, and participants of ethnic organisations, migrant diasporas and anti-war initiatives from Russia. They belong to peoples who, at different times, have experienced Russian colonization and its consequences, and they are united by one task: to tell the world the truth about our state in Russia and to work towards a future free from colonialism, authoritarianism and war.

These texts briefly summarises the main theses of the reports, which can be seen as recommendations for supporting decolonial policies towards Russia for foreign political leaders, NGOs, activists, experts, academics, cultural actors and other representatives of democratic countries interested in the prospects for a sustainable and just peace in the region.

duration of presence and the generosity of togetherness nurture gardens that pollinate the thirst of those who seeks

This is the second book about the Open Air Museum of Decoloniality. The project, launched in September 2023 by de_colonialanguage collective with the support of various communities, friends and their friends, enthusiasts, and artists, has been running for two+ years now right on Alexanderplatz (Berlin). It began as research and protest, and we thought about occupying a space that belonged and still belongs to ideas that we consider controversial and necessary for critical discussion (Russian imperialism, unbridled capitalism, total control). Now, our presence in this huge space has transformed into a regular presence and an invitation to many Others to join us. People come to us with a desire to show their work at the Open Air Museum of Decoloniality. It is still just a huge square without walls and with its own characteristics, but the operational activities of many artists have already contributed to this space are strongly changing this space.

thoughts, criticism, manifestos, documentation, and epistemological shifts in motion from colonial hopelessness to decolonial solidarity
