Pamoja Press – Miss Read

Pamoja Press

Pamoja Press is a publishing house that specializes in artistic books, exhibition catalogs of Polish artists, translations of critical thought, and original essays. Our publications emerge from close collaboration with artists, educators, and academics, and they accompany the activities carried out by the Razem Pamoja Foundation.

Our mission is to provide space for voices that are often marginalized in public discourse, as social inequalities are reproduced both materially and discursively. From the perspective of post-socialist Eastern Europe, we are particularly interested in our intricate relationships with the Global South. We strive to ensure that our publications function as instruments of decolonial pedagogy. This purpose is realized through collaborative initiatives in Kenya, in the Mathare district of Nairobi, and in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

In June 2018, the critic Agata Pyzik came there to write a classic guide to the exhibition. Instead, a monumental (over 300 pages), although small, book was created, divided into two parts. One is a dissertation on the topics discussed at the Fuerteventura exhibition: violence, racism, surveillance, eugenics in the context of the crises of recent years, where they manifest themselves with particular acuteness: refugee and climate, to which the COVID-19 epidemic added an epilogue. The second is a personal, autobiographical essay by Pyzik about her relationship with traveling and a therapeutic journey through travel and film memories. The book is accompanied by several dozen photos and collages by Pyzik, which were created in close cooperation with Marta Lissowska, an artist, graphic designer and author of the entire visual concept of the book.
