Paperlocs. – Miss Read

Paperlocs.

Paperlocs is a material-led publishing practice based in Athens, Greece, founded by two graphic designers. Operating alongside commissioned design work, the studio develops handmade paper as primary material and uses it to explore print, binding and small-run editorial production. Working primarily with offcuts and surplus materials, we produce master sheets before designing on them. This approach allows full control over texture, weight and behaviour, shifting paper from passive substrate to active component. The studio functions as both laboratory and publishing arm: testing how image, scale and binding interact with irregular surfaces, and how editorial structure responds to material constraints.

All stages of production, from papermaking to printing and hand-sewn binding are executed in-house, maintaining autonomy while allowing the material to retain its organic character. We operate as an independent initiative while remaining open to collaborations, commissions and cross-disciplinary projects.
