Pioneer Works Press – Miss Read

Pioneer Works Press

At Pioneer Works, publishing is essential to artistic practice. It’s also key to how we aim to shape and share contemporary culture. Our publishing ecosystem is comprised of Pioneer Works Press, our imprint dedicated to releasing books and records from path-breaking artists and writers. Our books are extensions of the community at large: exhibiting artists, artists in residence, collections from Broadcast, our online/print magazine, work directly drawn from programming from all disciplines. Through all of our projects, Pioneer Works itself is the source material. We believe in books as objects, and in the irreplaceable role of publications of all kinds for building community, sharing crucial stories, and gaining knowledge. We strive to make our brick-and-mortar home a vital nexus for conversation across the disciplines. And with bold design and fresh thinking intrinsic to everything we do, we aim to showcase and nurture the most urgent voices of our time.

The official book cover for Endless Garment, the latest publication from Pioneer Works Press. This debut poetry book reclaims the language of T-shirts as found poetry, capturing the collisions and lyricism of global clothing culture. Endless Garment is an unfurling poem stitched together from text printed on found T-shirts. Drawn from a decade-long archival project by the artist collective Shanzhai Lyric, this 147-page collection is a testament to their transcription of hundreds of mass-produced garments all over the world. From "CHANEL COCO CHRISTIAN DIOP" to "CHOP YOUR OWN / WOOD / AND IT W LL WARM YOU," these linguistic aberrations reveal the chaos of the garment industry as it moves through bootleg economies.
