Pläsnt Dschörnie
‘Pläsnt Dschörnie - Moving Flyer’ is a long-term, open-ended print project instigated by text-based investigations in the naïve, clunky vernacular graphic design utilized by Berlin-based moving companies. The single-sided flyers (20 so far) are created using ‘old-fashioned’ paste-up methods common before the advent of desktop publishing, while playing on the regurgitated tropes, wording, and graphic forms often found in American small business ephemera, community newsletters, church bulletins, or school lunch menus.
At Miss Read, I will be in-character as a representative of the company, and in addition to the flyers, I will be offering other Pläsnt Dschörnie-branded items: mugs, wet wipes, tape, and moving boxes, and advice and consolation about potential customers’ upcoming and recent moving experiences.
I am a multidisciplinary artist who works with the ways humans create their material living conditions, forming the core of my artistic practice. I explore domestic settings reflecting self-sufficiency and do-it-yourself practices of alternative ways of living.
