PrintRoom – Miss Read

PrintRoom

PrintRoom presents, develops, and supports artistic strategies of independent publishing. Founded in 2003 as a traveling and growing collection of artist publications, PrintRoom is now settled in Rotterdam where it is host to diverse audiences.

Here, artist publishing is not just seen as a medium in which ideas are communicated, but a process around which communities emerge, exchanges take place, and alternative ways of living together are put into practice. It is a diverse and approachable discipline where conceptual and activist ideas coexist and support each other.

Through creating and publishing artist publications, building and sharing a unique archive, organizing a "Publisher in Residence" program, and curating various events, PrintRoom connects international networks and local communities daily. For PrintRoom, artist publishing equals do-it-yourself together: every publishing project is at the same time a socially engaged, collective process.

On the occasion of Museumnacht Rotterdam ("Museum Night"), PrintRoom activated its local branch of the Protest Banner Lending Library by providing guests with the space and material to make their own protest banners in a convivial set up.

PrintRoom’s Leesmap is inspired by the traditional Dutch ‘leesmap’, a file with mainstream magazines distributed from hands to hands, at dentists' or hairdressers' waiting rooms, etc. This peculiar issue was made together with regular PrintRoom's collaborators.
