PrintRoom – Miss Read

PrintRoom

PrintRoom presents, develops and supports artistic strategies of independent publishing. Founded in 2003 as a travelling and growing collection of artist publications, PrintRoom is now settled in Rotterdam where it is host to diverse audiences.
PrintRoom is composed of a physical collection of experimental publications made by local, national and international artists. Publications can be purchased in the shop, which also functions as an event space, archive, reading room, and office in one. In addition, PrintRoom runs a workshop space which offers various facilities, including risograph machines used for printing a wide range of publications.
Through creating and publishing artists' publications, building and sharing a unique archive, organising a Publisher in Residence programme and curating various events, PrintRoom connects international networks and local communities on a daily basis. For PrintRoom, artist publishing equals do it yourself together: every publishing project is at the same time a socially engaged, collective process.

Leesmap #2, presentation, 2025

PrintRoom’s Leesmap is inspired by the traditional Dutch ‘leesmap’, a file with popular magazines. It gathers a range of (maga)zines made by artists and publishing platforms. Leesmap is distributed in various places: hairdressers' and dentists' waiting rooms, art spaces, laundromats, libraries, or directly to people and aims to question alternative ways of circulating artists' publications. Each host of Leesmap hands it to the next one, and so on. After seven stations, the last host may keep the file.
