"Spunkt Art Now" is a 44 pages publication that explores the attitude, energy, aesthetics, and legacy of punk culture in today's arts. And it’s HUGE, measuring 99 x 42 cm when open.
"Spunkt Art Now" brings together artists and authors whose works are linked to the ideology, ethics, and aesthetics of the punk movement. Originally rooted in music, punk became notorious for its irreverent spirit and subversion of established cultural and political structures. The artworks in this publication examine the connections between the punk movement and contemporary art practices.
Contributors include Greil Marcus, Marie Arleth Skov, David G. WHAT IS SPUNKT?
The word Spunkt is a neologism created from the English word "spunk" and the German word "punkt," with "punk" in its milieu. It is a new term, free from historical ties to music and preconceived notions, waiting to be defined.
THE ESSENCE OF SPUNKT
"Spunkt Art" asserts the undeniable influence of punk on contemporary art. It merges punk resilience with a plastic conception of existence. Aware of humanity's flaws and potential, and disheartened by art's banality, spunkt embodies a philosophy of self-reinvention amidst stress and adversity.
A SOCIAL LABORATORY
This publication serves as a social laboratory, testing plastic and philosophical reactions. Ideals and redemptive naivety underpin these texts and images, fostering a collaborative creation that helps us understand the world and find our place in it.
A PROPAGANDA TOOL
"Spunkt Art Now" is a tool for social and conceptual combat. It represents a collective situation, creating a psychogeography of our imagination. It a statement that allows us to take a stand and claim an aesthetic territory. If punk was the pinnacle of counterculture, spunkt art is now the banner of a cultural war.
