Well Gedacht Publishing

Well Gedacht Publishing is a duo consisting of artists Eren İleri and İpek Burçak, active since 2019. They publish books, zines, pamphlets from an anti-colonial and diasporic perspective. Furthermore, they work with the themes of publishing, such as digital publishing, digital autonomy and open source tools for self-publishing.

Well Gedacht Publishing’s most recent larger project is titled Post-Platform Digital Publishing Toolkit, and includes a wiki which is a collection of guides, essays, lists on digital autonomy, self-hosting and experimental digital publishing methods.

Post-Platform Digital Publishing Toolkit is a project exploring how to overcome the limitations of digital publishing today, on social media or elsewhere online, and advocates self-hosting methods for artists and artists' book publishers. The project started as a documentation of our quest to break free from the ever-enshittifying products, services, and platforms run by the oligarchic big tech and move towards self-hosting our data, websites, and services at Well Gedacht Publishing. The wiki features guides on how to self-host static websites and online services at home, create your own RSS feeds, and use the open source tool Pandoc to convert rich text files to HTML.

The zine is a result of wiki2print techniques, using DokuWiki2Markdown script by mm503, pmcwiki2print by Dusan and Pandoc. The wiki, toolkit.wellgedacht.org, is self-hosted by Well Gedacht Publishing in Berlin.

Well Gedacht Publishing Communism Reader includes contributions dealing with different forms of revolutionary struggle from Alpas Pilipinas, Sanabel Abdelrahman, Hasan Özgür Top, Akiko Ono, Ipek Burçak and interviews with Emrah Cilasun and C., and is designed by Fadi Houmani. The risograph-printed zine looks at the history of communist initiatives in the Global South—movements and figures from the past and present through an anti-colonial lens.

With the Communism Reader, Well Gedacht Publishing brings out a publication that motivates and connects the historical with the current and pushes to action to build something new while dealing with the oppressing systems and repressing states.
