Africa South Art Initiative (ASAI)

ASAI is a non-profit organisation that acts as a collaborative platform for Africa-centred research, publishing and projects in the visual arts. A content-rich website complements workshops, exhibitions, discussions and print publications. Active since 2005, ASAI is based at the University of Cape Town and the Durban University of Technology, where it established an Art Resource Centre in 2023.
ASAI's recent publication, titled On the Map: perspectives on art from africa south, is a multi-authored anthology featuring texts on fourteen artists, with texts focusing on critical themes in these artists' works.
