Window glass as a full brake. In DISPLAY, shop mannequins are dissected. The shop window is displayed as an inaccessible space between sidewalk and store, an interface between interior and exterior. The staged mannequins with their gestures appear like cinematic freeze frames. Winnes Rademächers places a smartphone directly against the glass and snaps a shot. The viewpoint and distance to the mannequins are thus fixed, artistic intervention is minimized. The strong image cut-outs suggest that the dolls have a ghostly life of their own. Fashion, stripped of its labels, loses its constructed value and fantasy pricing. It becomes a material sample. 3D tension in 2D.

Resting worm
Jason Jägel, Resting worm, Felder Books Berlin, 2024 © Jason Jägel

San Francisco-based artist Jason Jägel is known for his complex paintings and drawings that fill sheets of paper, canvases and entire walls of buildings. In this book, Jägel also shows some figures drawn with sumi black ink and a brush as single images. This produces spaces on paper. Not empty spaces, but spaces that are under tension. Spaces full of invisible threads that have already been spun by all the figures.
Among many others, Jason Jägel created the intricate painting for the album cover “MM..FOOD” by MF DOOM, a turning point for hip-hop album art. Jägel’s work is featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the UCLA Hammer Museum, among others. You can also see some of his work on walls in the streets of San Francisco!

Drawings
Sam Prekop, Drawings, Felder Books Berlin, 2024 © Sam Prekop

The very first page promises: it’s all about the whole. If you look at the simple geometric shapes drawn with colored pencils one by one, you might think you recognize certain objects. Despite their direct language, however, they do not pretend to represent anything in particular. They exhibit their pure construction. Yet the mysterious order of this exciting construction kit seems unchanging. The beauty of Prekop’s drawings, like their rhythm, is only get in one piece.
Chicago-based musician/artist Sam Prekop is a founding member of The Sea and Cake and has released several solo albums. This book collects 27 of his drawings from autumn 2023, printed in original size.
