On Kino
On Kino is a cultural community space for film screening founded by artist and filmmaker Qin Dao in 2017 in Guangzhou, China. We aim to present films in a composite and contextualised approach, also encourage diverse participation and loose-linked collective action through woodblock printing.
Centred on film and archive, On Kino's work covered a wide range of social and political issues, demonstrated various forms of resistance, also focused on the uncovered film archives and local ethnographies in China and Southeast Asia area.
Woodcut as a medium in handcraft, is in response to the commercialised film industry. We use woodcuts as a communication tool to raise awareness of related issues not only in individuals' everyday experiences but in a global context, while engaging people in social and political issues through art at the same time.
