Publication Studio Guelph
PS Guelph is one node in the Publication Studio network, which prints and binds books by hand, one at a time, on demand. Each studio acts autonomously, publishing books that they are excited about and contributing them to a collective catalogue. At the core of our ethos is a commitment to the social life of a book, which means decentralizing publishing, removing intermediaries, resisting metrics of marketability, harnessing collective power through a wide distribution network of other studios across the world, while inviting artists, writers, poets and readers into more intimate relationships with one another. Another core of our ethos is to publish books that are needed in these times, and books that will not be published by other, more mainstream publishers.
We believe bookmaking by hand is a radical practice that invites slow publishing, thoughtful bookmaking, kinship, and emergent dialogue. Bookmaking is a form of protest. The studio feels like a soft sanctuary. Each book is a meditation practice, an act of solidarity and resistance.
